It is used in the production of G penicillin. It is also used to treat type II hyperammonemia by helping to reduce the amount of ammonia in a patient’s bloodstream.
Phenylacetic acid is often used in the production of perfumes.
Phenylacetic Acid has a sweet animal honey-like odour. It is made up of white, glistening, leafy crystals. It has been identified as an active hormone (an auxin) in some fruit baring plants. It is also found in the metapleural gland of the majority of ant species acting as an antimicrobial.
