CAMBRIDGE —Blendtek Fine Ingredients was a big winner at the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards gala on Thursday night.

It was honoured as the Business of the Year for companies with one to 49 employees, and Steve Zinger, its president, was named the Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Blendtek, a business with roots going back 140 years, supplies ingredients for the food industry. The award judges that it has become a world leader in the market through innovation and determination.

Zinger jumped into the family business when he was 12 and did just about every job possible. After graduating from university, he launched his own business within the organization, taking a sales book of $200,000 a year, eventually growing it to $8 million.
